The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater is a four-book series published between 2012 and 2016, set in the fictional town of Henrietta, Virginia. The books follow Blue Sargent and four boys from the nearby private school — Richard Gansey III, Ronan Lynch, Adam Parrish, and Noah Czerny — as they search for the lost Welsh king Glendower, who is supposedly buried somewhere along a ley line running through the area.
The series is built on the relationships between its five main characters as much as on the supernatural quest. Stiefvater writes about class, ambition, family damage, and the particular intensity of teenage friendship with prose that is lyrical without being ornamental. The Raven Cycle also includes supplementary material — holiday pieces, a graphic novel adaptation, and the companion novella Opal — that expands the world Stiefvater created.
