Maggie Stiefvater’s standalone novels show her range beyond her series work. The Scorpio Races (2011) is set on a windswept island where carnivorous water horses from the sea are captured and raced each November, and it is often cited as her best book. All the Crooked Saints (2017) is set in 1960s Colorado and involves miracles, a family of saints, and a radio station.
More recently, Bravely (2022) is a retelling of the Disney/Pixar film Brave, and The Listeners (2025) is her latest standalone. Swamp Thing: Twin Branches (2020) is a graphic novel for DC Comics. The standalones demonstrate that Stiefvater’s atmospheric, character-driven approach works across very different settings and formats.
