In the YouSpace series, Holt plays with the idea of parallel universes that correspond to different fictional genres. Characters find themselves dropped into alternate realities where fairy tales, fantasy quests, and medieval politics all follow their own internal rules.
Doughnut (2013) kicks things off when a disgraced physicist discovers a device that lets him hop between realities. The series continued with When It’s A Jar, The Outsorcerer’s Apprentice, and The Good, the Bad and the Smug, each riffing on genre tropes while keeping Holt’s dry comedic tone.
