The You series by Caroline Kepnes introduced one of the most talked-about characters in modern thriller fiction: Joe Goldberg, a bookstore clerk whose romantic obsessions turn deadly. The first novel, You, was published in 2014 and became a sensation after Netflix adapted it into a television series. Kepnes followed up with Hidden Bodies (2016), You Love Me (2021), For You and Only You (2023), and You First (2026), continuing to develop Joe’s twisted perspective on love and belonging.
The series includes some international translations (Ty is a Polish edition of You, and Ukryte ciala is the Polish Hidden Bodies). What makes the books stand out is Kepnes’s use of second-person narration, putting the reader directly inside Joe’s head as he rationalizes his increasingly dangerous behavior. Each book sends Joe to a new setting and a new fixation, but the core question stays the same: how far will he go this time?
