Lin Carter’s World’s End series follows Ganelon Doyle, a warrior who wanders across a far-future Earth so ancient that magic and technology have blurred together. Each book sends him into a different region of this strange world, encountering everything from enchantresses and pirates to giants and immortals.
The six novels were published between 1974 and 1979 and are very much products of their era — short, action-packed, and stuffed with inventive world-building. Carter’s prose style leans toward the ornate, in the tradition of the classic fantasy authors he championed as an editor and critic. The series rewards readers who enjoy old-school sword-and-sorcery with a science fantasy twist.
