The World of Eric Carle line centers on characters Carle created over his long career. The Very Hungry Caterpillar, first published in 1969, anchors the series and appears in dozens of board book adaptations covering holidays, seasons, first words, colors, and counting. Other characters including the Grouchy Ladybug, the Very Busy Spider, and Brown Bear also appear across the line.
The series expanded significantly in the 2010s and 2020s with seasonal titles (Easter, Christmas, Halloween, Chanukah), interactive formats (scratch-and-sniff, finger trail, lift-the-flap), and early concept books. Many of these later titles were produced as branded extensions of Carle’s art and characters rather than books he personally wrote and illustrated.
