The Women of Midtown series by Elizabeth Camden is a Christian historical romance trilogy set in early twentieth-century New York City. The books are connected by a Midtown Manhattan apartment building reserved for unmarried career women, a real type of housing that existed during the era. Each heroine lives on the same floor, but the novels stand on their own.
While the City Sleeps (2024) follows Katherine Schneider, a dentist whose life changes when a patient reveals details of a criminal plot while under the influence of laughing gas. She turns to Lieutenant Jonathan Birch, a police officer she has long admired, and the two work together through the nights to unravel the conspiracy. When Stars Light the Sky (2025) and Beyond the Clouds (2026) continue with new heroines from the same building.
Camden has won Christy, Carol, and RITA Awards for her historical fiction, and the Women of Midtown books carry forward her focus on strong professional women in Gilded Age and early twentieth-century settings. Each novel pairs a romance with a historical plot rooted in the real social and political issues of the period.
