The Wollie Shelley Mystery series launched with Dating Dead Men in 2004 and immediately won the mystery genre’s biggest first-novel awards: the Agatha, Anthony, and Macavity. Harley Jane Kozak’s background in comedy acting shows in Wollie’s voice, which is sharp, self-deprecating, and consistently funny even when the plots turn dark.
The series continued with Dating Is Murder (2005), Dead Ex (2007), and A Date You Can’t Refuse (2009). Each book follows Wollie through a different case, with the dating theme running through the titles and the plots. The Los Angeles setting gives Kozak plenty of material for satirizing the entertainment industry and its more eccentric residents.
