Wings of Fire began in 2012 with The Dragonet Prophecy, which introduced five young dragons raised in hiding to fulfill a prophecy about ending a decades-long war between the dragon tribes of Pyrrhia. The first arc follows Clay, Tsunami, Glory, Starflight, and Sunny as they escape their guardians and set out across a continent divided by the War of SandWing Succession. Each book is told from a different dragonet’s point of view, a structure Sutherland carries throughout the series.
The second arc shifts focus to the Jade Winglet, a group of students at Jade Mountain Academy, the school founded after the war. Moon Rising introduces Moonwatcher, a NightWing with secret mind-reading and prophetic powers, and the books follow her friends as they face a new villain and buried secrets about the NightWing tribe. The third arc expands the world to Pantala, a second continent where HiveWing and SilkWing dragons live under the control of Queen Wasp and a parasitic plant called the othermind. The series has sold millions of copies and was adapted into a graphic novel line illustrated by Mike Holmes and Barry Deutsch. Hero (2026) begins the fifth arc and a new era for the franchise.
