Winds of the Forelands is a five-book epic fantasy series that begins with Rules of Ascension (2002). The story is set in a land divided between the Eandi, who hold political power, and the Qirsi, who possess magic but are treated as subordinates. When a Qirsi conspiracy begins working to overthrow Eandi rule, the resulting conflict pulls in characters from both sides.
The series follows multiple point-of-view characters across its five volumes, building from political assassination in the first book through escalating war and betrayal. Seeds of Betrayal (2003), Bonds of Vengeance (2005), Shapers of Darkness (2005), and Weavers of War (2007) each widen the scope of the conflict while keeping the focus on individual characters caught up in larger events.
