William Faulkner published seventeen short story collections across his career and posthumously. These 13 (1931), his first collection, includes A Rose for Emily and other early stories. Go Down, Moses (1942) blurs the line between story collection and novel, linking tales about the McCaslin family and the Mississippi land they inhabit.
Collected Stories (1948) won the National Book Award and remains the most comprehensive single-volume gathering of his short fiction. Later compilations like Selected Short Stories (1956) and Uncollected Stories of William Faulkner (1979) continued to make his shorter work available. New Orleans Sketches (1957) collects his earliest published writing.
