Will Ferguson’s five standalone novels show his range as a writer. Happiness (published as Generica outside Canada, 2001) is a satire about a self-help book so effective it destroys entire industries. Spanish Fly (2007) is a historical novel about con artists during the Great Depression. 419 (2012), his Giller Prize winner, follows the human cost of Nigerian email scams across three continents.
The Shoe on the Roof (2017) and The Finder (2020) continued Ferguson’s exploration of different genres. Each novel takes on a distinct subject and tone, connected only by Ferguson’s interest in how people deceive themselves and each other.
