The Widow’s Brew series is Sally MacKenzie’s most recent completed series, with three books published between 2018 and 2021. Set in the village of Little Puddledon, the stories center on a group of widows who run a small brewing business. The first book, What Ales the Earl, introduces the setup, followed by The Merry Viscount and Cheers to the Duke.
The brewing premise gives MacKenzie fresh material to work with, and the widowed heroines bring a different energy than the younger protagonists in her earlier series. These women have already been married and have their own established lives, so the romantic conflicts feel distinct. The humor is still present, and the Regency setting remains, but the Widow’s Brew books have their own identity within MacKenzie’s body of work.
