Viridian Gate Archives is the core series in James A. Hunter’s most expansive fictional universe. Cataclysm (2016) establishes the premise: an asteroid is heading for Earth, and the only escape is uploading into a virtual reality game. The eight-book series follows the main characters as they build alliances, fight wars, and try to carve out a life inside a game world that is now the only world that exists.
The series progresses through Crimson Alliance, The Jade Lord, and Imperial Legion as the political and military situation within the game grows more complex. Later entries like The Lich Priest, Doom Forge, and Darkling Siege introduce larger supernatural threats. Empirical Endgame (2022) brings the main story to its conclusion after six years of publication.
