Vi Valentine has just found out that her mum, her dad, and her gran are all secret agents, which explains quite a lot about her childhood. The Vi Spy series takes the classic secret-agent setup and runs it through the chaos of a dysfunctional family comedy, with Vi caught between missions, school, and relatives who will not stop treating espionage like a normal career choice.
All three books appeared within two years (2021 and 2022), so the series is complete and readable back to back without any gaps. Licence to Chill introduces the premise; Never Say Whatever Again raises the stakes; The Girl With the Golden Gran brings the gran centre stage in a particularly entertaining fashion. The titles are an extended James Bond riff, and the books deliver on that promise with plenty of winking references alongside their own original plots. Readers aged 9 to 13 who want something funny and fast-moving will find all three satisfying.
