The Venus series is Burroughs’s planetary romance set on Venus, known as Amtor to its inhabitants. Pirates of Venus (1932) introduces Carson Napier, who aims for Mars but crash-lands on Venus instead, finding a world of cloud-shrouded oceans, floating cities, and warring kingdoms.
The series continues through Lost on Venus (1935), Carson of Venus (1939), Escape on Venus (1942), and The Wizard of Venus (1964), with the posthumous Child of Venus (2001) completing the set. Like John Carter on Mars, Carson Napier becomes a warrior and romantic hero on his adopted world.
