The Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead is a bestselling young adult paranormal franchise that began in 2007. The six main novels follow Rose Hathaway, a half-vampire (dhampir) training to be a guardian for her best friend Lissa, a royal vampire (Moroi). The story is set at St. Vladimir’s Academy, a boarding school for vampires and their protectors, and deals with threats from the Strigoi, evil undead vampires.
The series expanded beyond the core novels with supplementary material. Homecoming (2012) and The Meeting (2013) are bonus stories that fill in gaps between events in the main series, while The Untold Stories (2017) collects additional material. Mead’s worldbuilding distinguishes between three types of vampires: the Moroi (living), dhampir (half-human), and Strigoi (undead), creating a layered society with its own politics and dangers.
