The Upside-Down Magic series, co-written by Emily Jenkins (as E. Lockhart’s real identity), Sarah Mlynowski, and Lauren Myracle, follows students at Dunwiddle Magic School whose powers don’t work the way they’re supposed to. Starting with Upside-Down Magic in 2015, the ten-book series features kids placed in a special class for students with unusual abilities.
The series uses the magical school setting to explore themes of fitting in and celebrating differences. It was popular enough to be adapted into a Disney Channel movie in 2020. The three co-authors each brought distinct strengths to the collaboration, resulting in books that balance humor, heart, and adventure.
