Chris d’Lacey’s Unicorne Files follows a teenager who investigates paranormal events for a shadowy organization. A Dark Inheritance (2014) introduces the setup, with Alexander’s Army (2015) and A Crown of Dragons (2016) continuing the story.
The protagonist, Michael Malone, discovers he has the ability to alter reality, which draws the attention of UNICORNE, a secret group that monitors unexplained phenomena. Each book sends him on a different mission, with the dangers escalating as he learns more about the organization and his own powers. Alexander’s Army involves clay soldiers that come to life, while A Crown of Dragons ties in elements of dragon mythology.
D’Lacey is best known for his Last Dragon Chronicles, a popular series about living clay dragons. The Unicorne Files targets a similar age group but takes a more thriller-oriented approach, with less whimsy and more suspense. The three books tell a complete story arc.
