This page lists standalone novels by Tyler Dilts, a crime fiction writer and creative writing professor at California State University, Long Beach. Dilts is best known for his Long Beach Homicide detective series, and Mercy Dogs (2018) is his standalone novel outside that series.
Mercy Dogs follows Ben, a former Long Beach Police homicide detective who was shot in the head during an act of heroism. He still suffers from seizures and memory problems, and manages a heavy pill regimen while serving as the sole caretaker of his father Peter, who has dementia. When their tenant Grace, a young waitress, suddenly vanishes, Ben is drawn into a search that puts his damaged but persistent investigative instincts to the test. Dilts’s writing has appeared in the Los Angeles Times and The Los Angeles Review of Books, and his Long Beach Homicide novel Come Twilight received an Edgar Award nomination.
