The Tuck and Ginger series by Ged Gillmore is a pair of middle grade adventure books starring two cats. The characters are based on Gillmore’s real-life cats, whom he adopted from a local animal rescue. Cats on the Run (2015) opens the series, and Cats Undercover (2017) continues their escapades.
In Cats on the Run, Tuck and Ginger are trapped in a high-rise apartment by Rodney and Janice Burringo, a pair of villains who want to use the cats’ body parts for nefarious purposes. The cats must escape and outsmart their captors. Cats Undercover picks up with the cats settled in the countryside, only for their peace to be disrupted by new trouble. Gillmore studied languages and literature at the University of London before moving to Sydney, and he splits his time between Australia, Ireland, and the UK. The books are written for laughs, with over-the-top villains and plenty of physical comedy.
