The Breach (2009) opens Patrick Lee’s trilogy with Travis Chase coming out of prison and stumbling into the most heavily guarded secret in human history: a government facility built around a wormhole through which alien objects have been emerging for decades. The objects have extraordinary properties, and the war over them has been going on in secret for years.
Dystopia (2010), Ghost Country (2010), and Deep Sky (2011) complete the series, with Chase pulled deeper into the conflict and eventually confronting the war’s origins. Lee uses the sci-fi elements to generate genuine plot surprises — the objects’ capabilities shift what’s possible in each book — while keeping the action thriller structure in place. The Breach reached the USA Today bestseller list in January 2010, the same month it made IndieBound’s Indie Next List.
