The Trail Drive series runs to over 30 books, each following a cattle drive along a named route across the American West. Starting with The Goodnight Trail (1992), the series covers famous and obscure trails alike, from the Chisholm Trail to the Bozeman Trail and beyond.
The books are straightforward western adventure fiction, focused on the dangers of long drives, hostile terrain, and the people who made their living moving cattle across open country. Later entries in the 2020s have continued the format with new trails and new crews.
