Timothy A Cotton’s three non-fiction books grew out of his popular writing on the Bangor Police Department’s Facebook page. The Detective in the Dooryard (2020) was the first collection, gathering his observations about policing, people, and Maine life into book form. His writing mixes self-deprecating humor with genuine reflection on the harder parts of the job.
Got Warrants? (2021) continued with more stories and essays, while Dawn in the Dooryard (2022) added a more contemplative tone to the mix. The three books together paint a picture of what it is like to work in law enforcement in a small New England city, written by someone who clearly enjoys both the absurdity and the meaning of the work.
