The Time Circle trilogy by Linda Lay Shuler consists of She Who Remembers (1988), Voice of the Eagle (1992), and Let the Drum Speak (1996). The series is set among the Ancestral Puebloan peoples of the American Southwest before European contact, following women who carry the spiritual title and abilities of “She Who Remembers.”
She Who Remembers introduces Kwani, whose blue eyes mark her as different and lead to her exile from her tribe. Through her story, Shuler recreates the world of the Pueblo peoples with attention to architecture, agriculture, trade networks, and spiritual life. The sequels move forward in time, tracking the gift as it passes to new generations and new settings, eventually reaching the Mississippian culture in Let the Drum Speak.
