The This Beats Perfect series is where Lizzy Dent got her start, publishing three YA novels between 2017 and 2018. All three are set in and around the music industry, following young characters trying to find their place in a competitive, high-energy world. The books capture the excitement of live music and the behind-the-scenes reality of trying to make it as a performer or in the business side of the industry.
These early novels show Dent’s talent for voice and pacing that would later make her adult rom-coms so popular. They are lighter reads aimed at a younger audience, but the sharp humor and relatable characters are already there.
