The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbooks started in 1999 and grew into a long-running series covering practically every area of life where things can go wrong. The original handbook by Joshua Piven and David Borgenicht became a bestseller, and the follow-up volumes expanded into topics like travel, dating, parenting, golf, and college life.
Each book follows the same format: short, illustrated guides for surviving specific scenarios, written in a deadpan instructional style that makes the absurd situations feel almost plausible. The series returned in 2019 with Expert Advice for Extreme Situations and again in 2023 with Apocalypse, proving there is always something new to worry about.
