The Wings of War series is Karen Ann Hopkins’s YA paranormal fantasy, and a sharp departure from her Amish fiction. The four books follow Ember, a young woman whose normal life ends when her parents are killed and she learns she is a descendant of angels. The first book, Embers, pulls her into a hidden world of Watchers, Demons, and ancient conflicts between celestial beings.
As the series progresses through Gaia, Tempest, and the concluding Eternity, the stakes grow larger. The barrier between supernatural creatures and the human world weakens, forcing Ember to develop her powers quickly while navigating dangerous alliances and a forbidden romance. Hopkins fills the series with action, magic, and a mythology built around angels, dragons, and purgatory. The final book, Eternity, brings the various story threads together as prophecies are fulfilled and loyalties are tested. Published between 2014 and 2017, the series ran alongside the early Serenity’s Plain Secrets books.
