Brent Towns wrote The War Torn series across an unusual span of time. The first five books came out quickly between 1982 and 1983, starting with The Brave and the Lonely and followed in rapid succession by The Embattled & the Bold, The Fallen and the Free, The Divine and the Damned, and The Masters And The Martyrs.
After a gap of nearly four decades, Towns returned to the series with The Slaughter and the Terror in 2021. Each title pairs two contrasting ideas, and the books are best read in publication order to follow the story as it was written.
