The Sullivan and Mullins trilogy is set in Brighton, England, and pairs two unlikely collaborators against a series of killers whose crimes are tied to the world of tattooing. DI Francis Sullivan is a rule-following, church-going detective in his late twenties who needs Marni Mullins’s knowledge of the tattoo community to crack each case. Marni, a divorced mother and working tattoo artist, has her own reasons to distrust the police but gets drawn into the investigations when she discovers a flayed body.
The Tattoo Thief (2018) introduced the pair as they hunt a killer who slices tattoos from living victims. Her Last Breath (2019) follows an attack on a young woman bearing a deadly tattoo and a disappearance that pulls Sullivan and Mullins back together. The Embalmer (2020) closes the trilogy with a mummified body at Brighton’s Booth Museum and a killer obsessed with the gods of Ancient Egypt.
