The Tale of Lanen Kaelar is a fantasy trilogy that begins with Song in the Silence (1996). The story follows Lanen Kaelar, who has dreamed of the True Dragons all her life and finally gets the chance to meet them on the Dragon Isle, where humans are forbidden to go.
The Lesser Kindred (2000) and Redeeming the Lost (2004) expand the story as Lanen’s relationships with the dragons bring her into conflict with dark sorcery. The trilogy’s strength is its portrayal of dragons as a complex civilization, and the careful, emotionally grounded way Kerner develops the bond between Lanen and the dragon characters.
