The Private Eye is a ten-issue science fiction comic set in a future Los Angeles where the collapse of the internet has made everyone obsessively protective of their physical identity. People wear masks and costumes in public, and privacy is the most valued commodity. Brian K. Vaughan and artist Marcos Martin created the series for the digital platform Panel Syndicate.
The series was originally published as a pay-what-you-want digital release, making it one of the most notable experiments in comics distribution. It was later collected in print. The noir-influenced story uses its post-internet premise to explore questions about privacy, identity, and what happens when everyone’s secrets are exposed.
