The Munk Debates are a Canadian public policy debate series held in Toronto, founded in 2008 by philanthropists Peter and Melanie Munk. Each event pairs prominent thinkers and public figures on opposing sides of a pressing question, from “Does the 21st Century Belong to China?” to “Is American Democracy in Crisis?” The debates are moderated by Rudyard Griffiths and published as compact books containing the full transcripts.
Niall Ferguson has participated in several of these debates over the years. The 19 volumes published between 2010 and 2021 cover a broad sweep of political and social topics, including European integration, nuclear proliferation, income taxation, gender politics, the refugee crisis, populism, and the future of capitalism. Notable participants across the series include Christopher Hitchens, Tony Blair, and Henry Kissinger, among many others.
