The Last Policeman series asks a simple question: why bother solving murders when everyone is going to die anyway? Detective Hank Palace has his own answer. With an asteroid six months from wiping out life on Earth, most people have quit their jobs and given up. Palace keeps working his cases.
The trilogy follows Palace from his first suspicious hanging in The Last Policeman through the increasingly desperate world of Countdown City and into the final days in World of Trouble. Ben H. Winters won the Edgar Award for the first book, and the series earned praise for mixing detective fiction with end-of-the-world science fiction in a way that feels both tense and surprisingly human. The series also includes Polish-language editions.
