Craig DiLouie’s The Infection series starts with a simple enough setup: a mysterious plague sweeps the globe, and civilization collapses. But the infected aren’t just walking corpses. They mutate into a range of horrifying creatures, from screaming runners to massive, building-sized abominations. The first novel, The Infection, follows a small group of survivors trying to reach safety while the world falls apart around them.
The Killing Floor picks up where the first book left off, with the survivors now part of a military effort to push back against the infected. The stakes get bigger and the creatures get worse. The Final Cut, published nearly a decade after the second book in 2021, returns to this world for one more round. DiLouie’s approach to the apocalypse is bleak and violent, with no guarantee that any character will make it to the next chapter. The series helped establish his reputation as a horror writer who doesn’t pull punches.
