The Darkslayer is one of Craig Halloran’s earliest series, beginning with Wrath of the Royals in 2009. This seven-book series leans into dark fantasy and sword and sorcery, with a protagonist who fights through violent encounters with royals, druids, and castle sieges. The tone is grittier than Halloran’s dragon-focused work.
The series laid the groundwork for much of Halloran’s later writing. It spawned a sequel series, Darkslayer: Bish and Bone, and its main character crossed over into the Clash of Heroes books. For readers who prefer their fantasy with a harder edge, this is a strong starting point.
