The Castes and the OutCastes is Davis Ashura’s debut series and the foundation of his Anchored Worlds universe. The story is set in a world where isolated cities are protected by magic from a destructive goddess called Suwraith. Society within these cities is divided into rigid castes, each with its own abilities and roles. The worldbuilding draws heavily from Indian cultural traditions.
The protagonist, Rukh Shektan, is a warrior who is forced out of his home city of Ashoka. The trilogy follows his journey through the Wildness and explores themes of caste, identity, and duty. A Warrior’s Path (2013) was followed by A Warrior’s Knowledge (2015) and A Warrior’s Penance (2018). Stories from Arisa (2014) is a companion book of short stories set in the same world.
