The Broken Chronicles is David Wilson’s second series, launched with A Fair Test in 2025. The protagonist, Lance, is a Marine veteran left as the sole survivor of his squad after an IED attack in Afghanistan. Badly injured and medically retired, he battles survivor guilt, PTSD, and addiction to pain medication.
The series takes a different angle from Wilson’s Lone Star Odyssey books. Where Talon Clark is a capable, experienced operator from page one, Lance starts from a much darker place, and the story follows his path from rock bottom to reluctant protector when he must defend a group of Boy Scouts as civilization collapses.
