The Brides of Alba trilogy draws on the early Christian history of Scotland, a period that doesn’t get much attention in historical fiction. Windsor uses the setting to explore what faith looked like in a world that was still largely outside Roman influence and dealing with its own tribal conflicts.
Each of the three books, Healer, Thief, and Rebel, centers on a different woman with a distinct social role and set of challenges. The faith themes run through all three without the books reading as allegory.
