Texas Moonshiners is a standalone Western novel set in the world of illegal whiskey production on the Texas frontier. Moonshining was a real and widespread practice in rural America, and the Texas version came with its own set of dangers: rival operators, revenue agents, and the general lawlessness of the frontier all made for a risky business.
Published in 2019 by J.A. Johnstone, the book takes the bootlegging premise and wraps a Western action story around it. The result is something a bit different from the standard cowboy-and-outlaw formula. There’s still plenty of gunplay, but the moonshine angle adds a layer of cat-and-mouse tension that keeps things interesting. At one book, it doesn’t overstay its welcome.
