The Texas John Slaughter series is based on the life of John Horton Slaughter, a real Texas Ranger and cattleman who became one of the most effective lawmen in the late frontier West. Slaughter is best known for his time as sheriff of Cochise County, Arizona, where he brought order to the Tombstone area through sheer force of will and a willingness to shoot first when the situation called for it.
All three books were published in 2014. Deadly Day in Tombstone connects Slaughter to the famous Arizona mining town, the self-titled Texas John Slaughter fills in his background, and The Edge of Hell puts him up against a threat that tests everything he’s got. J.A. Johnstone stuck close enough to the historical record to give the series authenticity while adding the kind of action set pieces that the Johnstone brand is known for. Western history buffs will appreciate the real-world foundation, and action fans will find plenty of gunplay to go with it.
