Taylor Brown has published six standalone novels between 2016 and 2024, each set in a different era of Southern American life. Fallen Land (2016) takes place during the Civil War, while The River of Kings (2017) moves between past and present along Georgia’s Altamaha River. Gods of Howl Mountain (2018) drops into 1950s Appalachian moonshine country, and Pride of Eden (2020) turns to modern-day exotic animal rescue along the Southern coast.
His two most recent novels push into the twentieth century’s bigger conflicts. Wingwalkers (2022) follows stunt pilots during the early days of World War II, and Rednecks (2024) recreates the 1921 Battle of Blair Mountain in West Virginia, where thousands of coal miners took up arms against company enforcers. Across all six books, Brown writes about people caught up in forces larger than themselves, set against landscapes he knows well.
