Tale of the Demon World, also known as The Guardians, is a paranormal romance series by Meljean Brook. The series began with The Demon’s Daughter in 2004 and continued with fifteen books published through 2022. It is set in a world where angels, demons, and Guardians coexist alongside ordinary humans.
Guardians are humans who died heroically and were given a second life as supernatural warriors. Their job is to protect humanity from demons, who use bargains and deception to claim human souls. The series follows different Guardian-human pairings across the books, with an overarching conflict between Heaven, Hell, and the mortal world. Moon Awakening and several later entries introduced shapeshifter clans into the storyline.
The books were published by Berkley Sensation and later as self-published titles. Several of the shorter entries in the series originally appeared in multi-author anthologies before being collected or reissued as standalone works.
