The Tahn series is Leisha Kelly’s foray into fantasy fiction, following a young man who was stolen as a child and raised to be an assassin. The first book, Tahn (2005), opens as the title character defies his master for the first time, refusing to kill an innocent girl. This act of conscience sets the rest of the story in motion.
Return to Alastair (2006) and The Scarlet Trefoil (2007) continue Tahn’s story as he tries to build a new life while confronting the violence of his past. The medieval-inspired setting provides the backdrop for both physical conflict and spiritual searching. Kelly writes action sequences well, but the heart of the series is Tahn’s struggle to believe he can be more than what he was made to be.
