Elizabeth Heiter’s Tactical Crime Division series follows an FBI rapid-response team handling dangerous, time-sensitive cases. 48 Hour Lockdown (2020) launches the series with a hostage situation. Secret Investigation, Running Out of Time, and Midnight Abduction continue with new team members and cases.
Each book focuses on a different agent within the team, so the roster of main characters rotates while the unit itself provides continuity. The cases range from abductions to undercover work, and the clock-ticking format gives each story a built-in sense of urgency. Romance runs through each plot alongside the suspense.
All four books were published in 2020 under the Harlequin Intrigue line. Heiter also writes the K-9 Alaska and Profiler series, so readers who enjoy her FBI procedural style will find familiar ground here. The Tactical Crime Division books work as standalones, but reading them in order gives a better sense of the team dynamic.
