Sweet takes a fairly contained premise, a teenage girl wins a spot on a luxury cruise where passengers are given a new weight-loss supplement, and turns it into something darker once the drug starts affecting behavior in ways nobody anticipated. The cruise ship setting does a lot of work, trapping characters in close quarters with no obvious exit.
Laybourne leans into the thriller elements more heavily here than in Monument 14. The horror comes less from external disaster and more from watching people change in unsettling ways, which gives the series a different kind of tension.
