The Supervolcano trilogy is Harry Turtledove’s take on disaster fiction. When the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts, it buries much of the western United States under ash and throws the global climate into chaos. The three novels follow a Los Angeles police detective and his family as they try to survive in a changed world.
Published between 2011 and 2013, the series is set in the near future rather than an alternate past, which makes it unusual in Turtledove’s catalog. The books focus more on how people cope with catastrophe than on military conflict.
