The Stones Corner series by Jane Buckley is a four-novel sequence set in Derry/Londonderry, tracing life in the city from the early years of the Troubles in the 1970s through to the Good Friday Peace Agreement in 1998. The first book, Turmoil, establishes the two central characters: Caitlin, a factory worker, and James, an Oxford-educated bachelor, whose lives intersect across the city’s sectarian divide.
The series depicts the day-to-day reality of living through sustained political violence. Characters encounter bomb blasts, military checkpoints, and the grinding uncertainty of a city in conflict, but the books also focus on the personal — relationships, work, and ordinary life that continues alongside the extraordinary circumstances. Buckley, a Derry native, writes from detailed knowledge of the city and its communities.
The four books were published between 2021 and 2023. Turmoil opens the story, Darkness and Light follow in 2022, and Hope concludes the sequence in 2023 with the political resolution that the earlier books build toward.
