The Stars series was co-written by Luke Jennings and his daughter Laura Jennings and published by Puffin Books in 2013. The two books follow teenagers at a performing arts school as they navigate the pressures of training, competition, and friendships. Luke Jennings trained as a dancer at the Rambert School and worked professionally for ten years before turning to writing, so the stage school setting draws on real experience.
Jennings is better known to adult readers as the creator of Villanelle, the assassin character from his Codename Villanelle novellas that became the basis for the BBC America television series Killing Eve. He has also worked as a dance critic and co-authored The Faber Pocket Guide to Ballet. The Stars books represent a different side of his writing, aimed at younger readers and grounded in the world of performing arts rather than espionage.
