Star Trek: Vanguard is an original-era Trek series set on a remote space station in the Taurus Reach, a dangerous and mysterious region of space. Harbinger (2005) launched the series, which ran to eighteen entries including the final novella In Tempest’s Wake (2012).
The series has its own cast of original characters and tells a complete story arc, making it one of the more self-contained Trek novel series. David Mack was a key architect of the Vanguard storyline, and the series earned a reputation among Trek readers for its willingness to put characters in real danger and make permanent changes.
